malabar curtain materials
luxury silk velvet linen and net window treatments
Deep within the jungle lies a secret: Malabar has been producing eco-friendly fabrics for more than twenty years, made from start to finish by hand. The exotic and magical shores of India have inspired the creation of Malabar's handloom cottons, intricate embroideries and sumptuous silks. It is in Kerala, in a corner of the tropical monsoon lands of South India where Malabar's extraordinary cottons are crafted. Here the fabrics are produced in the most tradional of ways, dyed by hand, woven by hand and withoutt the use of machines: the fabrics are all made using all natural fibres, some of which are organic. The ethical production relies on small co-operatives, preserving the principles and skills of their forefathers. Malabar passionately values the ancient traditions of these unique and socially accountable fabrics and share in the pride of the craftsmen who know that they alone are responsible for the look, feel and beauty of a fabric made by their own hands. A wide range of fabrics from sumptuous taffeta silk, linen, crushed velvet, damask, bamboo velvet, silk organdie through to hand-loomed , hand-dyed cotton in a fabulous choice of rich, vibrant shades. swatch service available upon request.

Kohinoor Crewel work is traditionally done in the northern Indian region of Kashmir. The base cloth is known as desooti and the embroidery is done in pure wool. There are many different qualities of crewel work this is among the finest, click on images for swatch chart

|
Kohinor The Kohinor crewel is probably the finest crewel work available, embroidered by people usually given to making fine carpets. The work is very detailed, and with using two ply wool, it is extremely time consuming to make. As a result, the fabric is not cheap, but it is particularly beautiful and worth every penny. |
